The autumn-winter harvest produces grains, fodder and crops for animal husbandry, the food industry and biomass, such as barley, triticale, ryegrass and protein peas. The land then becomes available for possible new cultivation: this is the second harvest, late spring or summer seed drilling to be carried out from May to July with combined seed drills for optimal yield. Let’s look at the details together.
Second harvests, second seed drilling
Climatic conditions and agronomic evaluations guide the choice of products for second harvests: it can vary from sorghum to maize, both for fodder and for biomass or grain, vegetables, legumes, or choose grasses or various forages for livestock.
We have already addressed how to proceed with soil preparation, distinguishing between different tillage operations depending on the condition of the soil. Considering a necessarily shorter crop cycle, these crops are affected by the arrival of warmer temperatures, requiring timely tillage to keep the soil moist and suitable for germination. Second harvests can best be performed thanks to combined tilling, benefiting from several passes carried out simultaneously.

A single pass for several types of tilling
Combining several machines working in a coordinated manner, at the same time, makes it possible to perform several basic operations: tilling and soil preparation with a power harrow or disc harrow, seed-drilling and fertilisation. This single action reduces machine passages, soil compression and rotation times for agronomic improvement, saving fuel, reducing costs and shortening tillage times: better germination with reduced environmental pollution.
Relying on innovative and efficient machines makes it possible to make the soil soft, breaking up any existing crop residues, and distributing seeds and fertilisers evenly at all times: the machines produced by Alpego address these needs
Versatility and efficiency with the Alpego range
We have designed a range of precise, high-yield seed-drills because we know that good seed-drilling is the basis of a good harvest. Designed with new technologies using all the know-how acquired, it is possible to combine Alpego seed drills with different machines to achieve multiple optimal solutions:
The JET-M broadcast seed-drill is suitable for working in open field in combination with tractors between 110 and 200 HP. Equipped with a steel hopper with a capacity of 1000 l, it can work in combination with Alpego rigid power harrows.
The JET-X broadcast seed-drill is suitable for working in open field in combination with tractors between 130 and 320 HP. Equipped with a steel hopper with a capacity of 1500 l, it can work in combination with Alpego disc harrows and rigid power harrows.
For the fertilization and distribution of seeds, chemical and organic fertilisers, which is equally essential in agriculture, we have designed a wide range of stainless steel front hoppers: ASPRO front hopper with 1400 l capacity, ASMAX front hopper with 2300 l capacity. Thanks to their versatility, they can be used in seed-drilling combined with Alpego and other manufacturers’ machines.
